I was not able to observe possible hail on the 21st. *Please note, anemometer is currently partially obstructed from the North and East " - [ + + ]

Herndon - from member Randy Ashby: " June was about normal for temperature and above for precipitation. The temperatures ranged between a high of 93 and a low of 49 and was 0.2 degrees below normal. On the precipitation side, the month was 0.58” above normal, with 5.54” measured. June only had seven days of rain, but most of these were associated with heavy thunderstorms and on three days we had more that 1” of rain with the storms, although there many cases of hail and strong winds in the area on some of these days, This site did not experience those issues. We are now about 1.4” above normal for precipitation for the year. " - [ - + ]

Portsmouth - from Bill Trotter: " The month's average temperature of 76.3° was 0.4° ABOVE NORMAL. Precipitation (5.19") was ABOVE NORMAL by 0.80" or 118% of the June average rainfall during the period from 1977 to 2015. Glen Allen - from Lowell Koontz: " June had a very large difference in precipitation at the Glen Allen station and the Richmond International Airport. The 3.89 inches monthly precipitation at Glen Allen was a departure of negative 0.21 inches and the Airport had a +3.88 inch departure. Glen Allen had 9 days in June with measurable precipitation and a dry period of ten consecutive days with only a trace of rain from the 6th to the 15th. The Glen Allen station has had 3.92 inches less rain this month than the Richmond International Airport. Thunderstorms have caused varying rainfall amounts over the region. Thunder was heard on five days during June. The thunderstorm of June 16th was a severe and gave wind damage over much of Henrico County due to fallen trees. At the height of the storm some 160,000 customers in the Richmond area were without power, according to Dominion Virginia Power. The maximum wind for June here was 42 mph on the 16th from the NNW in the thunderstorm. This was the second highest high wind gust recorded for June. It was the worst thunderstorm at this Glen Allen Station since June 25th 2012 with a wind gust of 47 mph. The mean temperature for June was 75.4°F with a negative 0.9°F departure. The highest temperature for the month was 95°F on the 12th. Only 4 days had a maximum temperature of =90°F which is the least on record. The lowest temperature was 50 on the 9th which tied for the lowest on record for June. The 9th also set a new maximum daily temperature range of 33°F. The highest dew point temperature for June was 76.5°F on the 24th which tied for the second lowest recorded in June and also had the lowest heat index in the past seven years for June. " - [ - - ]

Richmond - from contributor Lowell Koontz (GAV): " The Richmond International Airport had 7.81 inches of precipitation for June which was +3.88 inch departure and was the seventh wettest June in the past 144 years. Wakefield NWS does not consider the records before 1887 as official on precipitation. The greatest June precipitation total is 9.93 inches in June 2004. June had only 9 days with precipitation even though it was the 7th wettest June. This occurred due to June having a dry period in this wet month of ten days with only a trace of precipitation and the fact 3.63 inches of rain fell in one day. The Airport had only one daily record for June. The record was for the highest daily rainfall for June 3rd of 3.63 inches. It is also interesting that only one other June day has had more precipitation occur which was on June 18, 1972 from Tropical Storm Agnes with 3.91 inches. The 34 wettest Junes had but one year 1963 with fewer days of measurable rainfall for the month. The Richmond International Airport reported the mean temperature for June of 74.5°F which was a -0.8°F departure and the 61st coolest since 1897. The highest daily maximum temperature was 94°F on the 12th and the lowest minimum temperature was 49°F which occurred on June 9th. The record minimum for June is 40°F in 1967. " - [ - + ]

A DAILY RECORD HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 76 DEGREES WAS SET AT FAYETTEVILLE ON JUNE 12TH. THIS BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 75 DEGREES SET IN 2003. " - [ + - ]

Raleigh - from member Bob Woodson (RAL): " JUNE WAS A WET AND STORMY MONTH WITH SEVERAL SEVERE WEATHER WATCHES/WARNINGS ISSUED. AN ESTIMATED 7.70 INCHES OF RAIN WAS MEASURED WHICH BRINGS THE YEAR TO DATE TOTAL TO 29.69 INCHES OR 7.9 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE AVERAGE DAILY TEMPERATURE WAS 0.5 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE HIGHEST YEAR TO DATE TEMPERATURE HAS ONLY BEEN 93 DEGREES. " - [ + + ]
