    Arlington/Washington, D.C. -from NWS LWX, Sterling, VA: " THE MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOVE NORMAL. MONTHLY PRECIPITATION WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL...AND TIED FOR THE 8TH DRIEST NOVEMBER ON RECORD. NOVEMBER MARKED THE END OF A RECORD WARM METEOROLOGICAL FALL SEASON. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FROM SEPTEMBER 1ST THROUGH NOVEMBER 30TH WAS 63.9 DEGREES...WHICH BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 63.3 SET IN 2007. IT WAS ALSO THE 7TH DRIEST METEOROLOGICAL FALL ON RECORD WITH ONLY 4.16 INCHES OF RAIN OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS. A RECORD DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 83 DEGREES WAS SET ON THE 3RD OF NOVEMBER...BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 80 SET IN 1974. THE LOW TEMPERATURE OF 37 ON NOVEMBER 12TH WAS THE LATEST FIRST SUB- 40 DEGREE TEMPERATURE ON RECORD. CLIMATE RECORDS HAVE BEEN KEPT AT RONALD REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT SINCE AUGUST OF 1941. ADDITIONAL TEMPERATURE RECORDS FOR THE WASHINGTON DC AREA EXTEND BACK TO JANUARY OF 1872. PRECIPITATION RECORDS EXTEND BACK TO JANUARY OF 1871. SNOWFALL RECORDS BEGAN IN JANUARY OF 1884. " - [ + - ]

    Chantilly - from Russ Topping: " The November mean monthly temperature was above normal and precipitation was below normal. The mean monthly temperature was 49.6° (+3.2°). The mean high temperature was 61.6° (+4.1°) and the mean low temperature was 37.6° (+2.3°). No temperature records were set or tied. November precipitation of 1.80” was a little over half of the normal average (-1.61”). Measurable rainfall fell on only 7 days. Only three days saw more than 0.03”, with two of those at the very end of the month. Maximum daily precipitation of 1.26” fell on the 30th, bringing some relief to growing drought concerns and ironically setting a new daily record during an otherwise extremely dry month. Dense fog was observed on the 29th and 30th. *Please note, anemometer is currently partially obstructed from the North and East " - [ + - ]

    Dulles -from NWS LWX, Sterling, VA - " THE MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL. MONTHLY PRECIPITATION WAS BELOW NORMAL. NOVEMBER MARKED THE END OF A VERY WARM METEOROLOGICAL FALL SEASON. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FROM SEPTEMBER 1ST THROUGH NOVEMBER 30TH WAS 60.0 DEGREES...WHICH RANKS AS SECOND WARMEST. IT WAS ALSO THE 5TH DRIEST METEOROLOGICAL FALL ON RECORD WITH ONLY 4.97 INCHES OF RAIN OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS. DESPITE THE OVERALL DRY CONDITIONS...A RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM RAINFALL OF 1.31 INCHES WAS SET ON THE 30TH OF NOVEMBER...BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 1.15 INCHES SET IN 1967. CLIMATE RECORDS AT WASHINGTON DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT BEGAN IN NOVEMBER OF 1962. " - [ + - ]

    Seven Corners/Fairfax County - from member John Iekel: " NOVEMBER 2016 WAS VERY DRY. ONLY 0.38” FELL UNTIL THE LAST TWO DAYS. " - [ + - ]

    Herndon - from member Randy Ashby: " November was above normal for temperature and below normal for precipitation. The temperatures ranged between a high of 79 and a low of 23 and was 1.8 degrees above normal. We had our first freeze on the 12th, the day we recorded a low of 28 degrees. On the precipitation side, the month was 1.25” below normal, with only 1.81” measured; 1.47” of that fell on the last two days of the month. We are now 8.19” below normal for precipitation during the last 4 months and are now about 6.5” below normal for precipitation for the year. " - [ + - ]

    Portsmouth - from Bill Trotter (POR): " NOVEMBER 2016 WAS THE 5th DRIEST NOVEMBER IN THE STATION DATABASE TO 1976. The top five driest Novembers include: 1) 0.30" 2001 2) 0.31" 2007 3) 0.54" 2010 4) 0.96" 2012 5) 1.02" 2016. The month's average temperature of 52.1° was 0.5° BELOW NORMAL. Precipitation (1.02") was BELOW NORMAL by 2.32" or 31% of the November average rainfall during the period from 1976 to 2015. At month's end, rainfall for the year totaled 64.17" (+17.10" or 136% of normal). Frontal passages occurred on the 3rd, 9th, 11th, 16th, 20th, and 26th. Frost occurred on the 12th (PM), 13th (heavy AM), 22nd (light), 23rd, 25/26th (around midnight), 27th (light AM and PM), and 28th.     Glen Allen - from Lowell Koontz (GAV): " This November was the second driest on record (records since 2008) as the monthly precipitation was 1.64 inches, a negative 2.45 inch departure when compared with Glen Allen’s eight year average. Precipitation occurred on 8 days in November and the month was the second clearest on record. The maximum temperature for November was 84.1°F on the 3rd which was a new record monthly maximum and surpassed the old record by +5°F and set a new heat index for November. The daily mean temperature on the 3rd was 70.9°F which tied the record for the warmest November day on record at Glen Allen. This was also the first temperature above 80°F for November. The month had 3 days with the maximum temperature of = 75°F. The lowest minimum was 21.8°F recorded on the 22nd. There were 9 days that the minimum temperature was less than or equal to 32°F which was near the average. The clear days of November gave large daily temperature ranges and set 7 daily high records and the average range of 26.1°F set a new high record average for November. The 39°F temperature range on the 13th also tied the record high for November. The maximum barometer reading for the month was 30.50 inches occurring on the 7th. The highest dew point for the month was 65°F on the 2nd which was average for November. The maximum wind gust was only 35 mph on the 29th which tied the record high wind gust for November.     Richmond - from contributor Lowell Koontz (GAV): " The average November maximum temperature was 49.8 which was the 50th warmest since 1897 and a departure from normal of -0.6°F. The 1.08 inches of precipitation recorded this month was the 19th driest Nov. of the past 129 years. This was a negative 2.16-inch departure from normal with a total of 7 days with measurable precipitation. The Airport’s greatest daily rainfall was 0.34 inches on the 14th. Only 12 years have had a November with a smaller daily maximum in November. The 83°F on the 3rd tied the record for the date set in 1974. Only seven years had a higher November maximum temperature. The highest on record is 86°F in 1993, 1974, and 1950. Only six years had a November with the lowest daily temperature range being greater than 11°F. The average temperature range was 24.6°F with only 16 of 119 years having a higher average the result of many clear days and nights. No snow occurred during the month which has occurred 62 times in the past 119 years. " - [ + - ]
