Arlington - " IN WASHINGTON DC...OCTOBER 2010 WAS WARMER THAN NORMAL...MAKING IT THE EIGHTH STRAIGHT MONTH WITH TEMPERATURES AT LEAST 2.5F DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. TWO DAILY HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURES WERE SET OR TIED. THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 63F ON THE 26TH TIED THE PREVIOUS DAILY HIGH MINIMUM RECORD SET IN 1971. THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE ON THE 27TH OF 68F BROKE THE PREVIOUS DAILY RECORD HIGH MINIMUM OF 66F LAST SET IN 1977. THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE DID NOT HIT FREEZING NOR EVEN DROP BELOW 40F THIS MONTH. THE LAST TIME FREEZING TEMPERATURES OCCURRED IN OCTOBER IN WASHINGTON DC WAS IN 1992...ON THE 20TH. PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH WAS NEAR NORMAL. NEARLY THREE-FOURTHS OF THE MONTHLY PRECIPITATION FELL ON ONLY TWO DAYS...THE 14TH AND THE 27TH...WHEN 1.26 AND 1.27 INCHES WERE RECORDED RESPECTIVELY. NO SNOW WAS RECORDED THIS MONTH. THE LAST TIME MEASURABLE SNOWFALL WAS RECORDED IN OCTOBER AT WASHINGTON DC WAS ON OCTOBER 10TH 1979...WHEN 1.3 INCHES FELL. " - [ + + ] - Notes from NWS Sterling, VA
Bridgewater - " The first 26 days of the month, only .08 inches of precipitation fell. It was a very dry month. The precipitation for the year is now 5.46 inches below normal. On October 10, 1979, seven inches of snow fell in Bridgewater. It is the only measurable snowfall that I have recorded for this month in my 45 years in my record keeping on snows. " - [ + - ] - notes from Clayton
Chantilly - Russ reports: " October was the eighth straight month in which the average temperature was above normal. Temperatures averaged 2.7° above normal and precipitation was 0.88" below normal.
