The high precipitation amount of 1.44 inches fell on October 9th; this was a new daily record since 1872. The previous record was 1.02 inches set in 1996. The 4 °F temperature range also on the 9th tied the 116-year record set in 1952 for the lowest temperature range for the date. Only 15 years have had a lower daily temperature range in October since 1897. The mean temperature was 62.6 °F, which tied for the tenth warmest October since 1897. The highest October temperature was 92 °F recorded on October 5th. Only five Octobers in the past 116 years have had a higher temperature. The record is 99 °F recorded in 1941. The average minimum temperature was 53.0 °F. Only 6 years were higher than this in the past 116 years. The Richmond International Airport recorded 4.25 inches of rain for October making it the 32nd wettest since 1887. The airport and eastern areas of Virginia received much higher rain totals on the 9th and 10th from a low pressure that formed on a cold front just off the VA coast.
